Windows Operating System is a computer operating system (OS) developed by Microsoft Corporation to run personal computers (PCs). Each version of Windows includes a graphical user interface, with a desktop that allows users to view files and folders in Windows. Different types of Computer Operating Systems refer to the collection of various softwares. Every computer possesses an operating system to run other programs present in it. Modern operating systems use a graphical user interface, or GUI.

Types Of Operating Systems:

The three most common Operating Systems for personal computers are:

+  Microsoft Windows

+  MacOS

+  Linux

+  Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows, commonly referred to as Windows Operating System, is a group of several proprietary graphical operating system families, all of which are developed and marketed by Microsoft Corporation. We look at the history of Microsoft’s Windows operating systems (Windows OS) from 1985 to present day.

Windows provides a graphical user interface (GUI), virtual memory management, multitasking, and support for many peripheral devices. In addition to Windows operating systems for personal computers, Microsoft also offers operating systems for servers and mobile devices.

As an operating system, Linux is software that sits underneath all of the other software on a computer, receiving requests from those programs and relaying these requests to the computer’s hardware.

One of the main advantages of Linux is that it is an open source operating system i.e. its source code is easily available for everyone. Anyone capable of coding can contribute, modify, enhance and distribute the code to anyone and for any purpose.

All Operating Systems, including Windows, serve as a base for computer programs to work off of. The Operating System (OS) controls the system’s hardware, making it so internal components and peripherals work across all programs.

Why is Windows Operating System So Popular?

Windows is very popular because it is pre-loaded in majority of the new personal computers and have very simple functionalities. A Windows PC is compatible with most software programs in the market.
