A computer is a electronic machine that accepts data as input, processes that data using programs/applications, and give us outputs the processed data as information. Many computers can store and retrieve information using hard drives as storage device(Known as memory unit). Computers are used to control large and small machines which in the past were controlled by humans.
Depending upon the size, the PC has been separated into 4 sections and those are as follows:
+ Micro Computer: A microcomputer is a computer with a central processing unit (CPU) as a microprocessor. Designed for individual use, a microcomputer is smaller than a mainframe or a minicomputer. We now refer to microcomputers as, simply, computers, or Personal Computers (PC).
+ Mini Computer: A minicomputer is a type of computer that possesses most of the features and capabilities of a large computer but is smaller in physical size. These are used for scientific and engineering computations, business-transaction processing, file handling, and database management, and are often now referred to as small or midsize servers.
+ Mainframe Computer: Mainframes are powerful computers used for large information processing and storage jobs. They are mainly used by government institutions and large companies for tasks such as census, industry and consumer statistics, enterprise resource planning, and financial transaction processing.
+ Super Computer: A supercomputer is a computer with great speed and memory. A typical modern Super Computer works much more quickly by splitting problems into pieces and working on many pieces at once, which is called parallel processing. Super Computers can do arithmetic jobs very fast, so they are used for weather forecasting, code-breaking, genetic analysis and other jobs that need many calculations.
In the next part of topic, we are discussing about computer and it’s components briefly.
