Barcode Readers / Barcode Scanners are electronic devices for reading printed barcodes. It also known as a POS (Point Of Sale) scanner is a hardware input device capable of reading a barcode using a laser. It can also print out the details of the product or log information about that product into a database. Barcode Readers consist of a light source, a lens and a light sensor that translates optical impulses into electrical ones. Additionally, nearly all Barcode Readers contain decoder circuitry.
More specifically, the sensor in the Barcode Scanner detects the reflected light from the illumination system (the red light) and generates an analog signal that is sent to the decoder. The decoder interprets that signal, validates the Barcode using the check digit, and converts it into text.
A QR Code (short for “quick response” code) is a type of Barcode that contains a matrix of dots. It works in the same way as a barcode at the supermarket. It is a machine-scalable image that can instantly be read using a Smartphone camera. It can be scanned using a QR Scanner or a smartphone with built-in camera. Every QR code consists of a number of black squares and dots which represent certain pieces of information.
On an Android device, this QR Code automatically opens Google Maps. SMS Codes send out an editable SMS message to a certain phone number after scanning. This would be valuable for getting customers to subscribe to an SMS-only marketing list.
